We remodeled our bedroom during COVID lockdown! Yes, sounds crazy but after being in quarantine for a few months from the world being shut down we decided it was time for our bedroom to have a makeover. Spending so much time together there we wanted something that felt like home.

Alexis Interior Designs transformed our boring, very white, and plain bedroom into the farmhouse theme and style we imagined! When I moved into our condo in March 2019 we already had our gray bed frame set from Ashley Furniture and the rest of the furniture was Ikea and Target.

We decorated what I thought looked good at the time but I knew it needed more love and that cozy feel that the bedroom was lacking. Alexis made the beautiful custom sign above our bed a few months into being married and I was obsessed with the touch it added to our room.

We always joke around when we are getting ready for bed with the question "Have I told you lately that I love you" and Michael responds no LOL (this is when I respond of course I have) It reminds us to say I love you and we have some laughs in between. Even though this blog post is months later I still wanted to feature Alexis's prescriptive of the Canales Bedroom Project.

"Hi, Franccesca’s visitors! I’m Alexis (or Lexi) the lady who helped execute the Canales Bedroom! As someone who currently lives in a renter’s apartment, it’s been so much fun living through Fran and coming up with unique ideas to spice up their home!

When Fran first reached out to me about her master bedroom, I was so excited! In the past I already created the sign above their bed so being asked to design the rest, I was pumped!

I really wanted to make the room cozy and relaxing for both of them. My color palette for this room was white and grey tones. Fran wanted to make sure the farmhouse's modern look played into the bedrooms so I incorporated some wood textures, and farmhouse accessories and gave her mirror a makeover!

First entering the Canales' bedroom everything was… white. The walls were begging me to paint them! So, I applied a nice coat of Barnished Clay and then began brainstorming some focal wall designs. I really wanted to create a shiplap wall for the space but then I thought… what if I use my wood grain scrapper. This is a handy tool I’ve used on previous projects but I never tried it on a wall. Once I started to create the wood texture on the wall, I fell in love! I just loved how the overall wall turned out. It was cost-effective and a great alternative if the Canales' end up selling their condo.

Creating the bench was one of the most rewarding but challenging things I ever made. Fran showed me a picture of a bench she wanted and me being ambitious, said YES, I can make that. My fiancé Chris honestly doesn’t trust me with an electric saw (totally understandable) so I drew up some ideas and he cut away and made my dream come true! We used furniture-grade wood which made the bench so sturdy. A bench that can last years to come!

Fran’s make-up mirror shared the same wall as the T.V. To break them up a bit, I wanted to add a rope to the mirror to give the illusion that the rope was holding it up.

The master bedroom became an incredible makeover that was once plain, to somewhere cozy and beautiful! Since this was my first time in a while designing a bedroom, I was so pleased with the outcome. Thanks, Fran for trusting the process and being open to the ideas!"
